D-DAY Anniversary

Posted on Monday, 11 June 2007 01:52PM by
Two ceremonies took place on Wednesday to mark the D-day anniversary of soldiers who died in the Normandy landings.  The first ceremony was at the war memorial at Newark Parish Church and the second took place at the new Memorial To The Fallen in Newark Cemetary.  There was a two minute silence at both sites by 15 members of the Newark branch of the Parachute Regimental Association.  Plaques were placed on the memorials dedicated to those who died. D-Day, on 6th June 1944 began the Allied invasion of Western Europe with 150,000 servicemen landing on the beaches of Normandy.
